Quicktime 7 Reference Guide

Though this book was used for a reference guide (with a different frame aspect ratio) i completed this illustration in a wider frame to accomodate composing for what i saw as a horizontal layout. The composition is lain out to portray the myriad of tracks of imagery which can be stored in a QuickTime movie. I wanted to illustrate a vast field of streams of data floating past the viewer. I used the graphic layer as a framing mechanism to help organize the view and focus context on a structure to the array of possibilities. Hanging off the graphic framing device are also somewhat cryptic icons used to indicate playback of a movie file.

The muted tones of the piece were intentionally chosen to allow the color chips and forms to "pop" more in their visual impact. Originally i had used a simple gray gradient in the background but the piece felt too cold so warmer tones were brought into the piece.

Completed spring 2007.
